Taiwan has earned international acclaim as an "economic miracle." Now Taiwan
is once again the subject of praise for its new achievements in the realm of
democratic government. However, the road to economic prosperity and democracy
is long and arduous, and the people of Taiwan believe their journey has just
begun. The government and people will continue to implement domestic reforms
and explore new technologies. Taiwan will also work to improve cross-strait
relations on the basis of goodwill, sincerity, and parity, as well as strengthening
existing relations with friendly nations. Finally, through humanitarian projects,
economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges, Taiwan will seek participation
in international organizations and take part in international affairs.

Taiwan possesses considerable democratic experience, technological prowess,
and economic power. With each new opportunity, Taiwan will apply these resources
to benefit the international community and contribute to the peace, prosperity,
and stability of both the Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole. |
