Premier Su Tseng-chang on Tuesday attended a ceremony held to formally inaugurate the "International News and Information Exposure Platform" that has been jointly created by the Central News Agency and the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The premier said that he hoped the establishment of the platform will enable outstanding companies on Taiwan to remain abreast of the latest international happenings, and help these firms and investors to find mutually beneficial business opportunities.

The following is the text of Premier Su's speech given at the ceremony:

Today marks the initiation of the "International News and Information Exposure Platform," which has been established in cooperation between the Central News Agency and the Taiwan Stock Exchange. I would like to take this opportunity to praise and encourage the establishment of this mechanism. I believe the establishment of this platform will not only help outstanding Taiwanese companies become more familiar with international happenings, but also will help pave the way for these enterprises and investors to engage in mutually beneficial business opportunities.

Over the past 10 years, the Central News Agency has aggressively transformed itself, emphasizing its social responsibility more than ever. In recent years, it has made a number of breakthroughs in various areas of its operations, chalking up a number of impressive achievements. This is especially the case with the establishment of this new platform. It has established a partnership relationship with Business Wire of the United States. This will expand news and services provided to top-notch Taiwanese companies. This tie-up is both quite significant and valuable. It not only provides for the rapid introduction of foreign news to Taiwan, but also transmits information on the development of Taiwan companies overseas on a real-time basis. This platform is valuable in enabling Taiwan to truly be a member of the global village.

Starting immediately, the "International News and Information Exposure Platform" offers a means for Taiwanese companies to issue important information such as operational achievements, business alliances, cooperative multinational mergers and acquisitions, planned investments in new factories, the development of new products, accomplishments in R&D or innovation, or fundraising activities to the domestic and foreign media. This information will be released on the portal Web site, providing a first-hand source of information as soon as it is released for international entrepreneurs, international financiers and fund managers. The platform will exhibit the function of "information convergence." It will also resolve any imbalance in information between entrepreneurs and investors. It will help Taiwanese companies to raise their international competitiveness and will also exhibit the internationalization and increasing transparency of Taiwan's capital market. I believe that if the functions of this platform are maximized, Taiwan companies will indeed enjoy increased competitiveness on an international level, and Taiwan's economic development will be a beneficiary. At this point, I would especially like to express my hope that all of the companies listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Gre Tai Securities Market take advantage of the platform for their own benefit as well as the benefit of Taiwan as a whole.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate the Central News Agency and the Taiwan Stock Exchange on their successful cooperation in getting the platform up and running smoothly. I also wish everyone in attendance here today good health and all the best. Thank you.
