Premier Frank Chang-ting Hsieh made an inspection visit to the central computer operation center for the "three-in-one" elections in the afternoon of December 3, 2005. Premier Hsieh said that the apprehensions and debate during the early stage of promoting the "three-in-one" elections were inevitable since this was the first time they were to be held. The successful conduct of the elections today and the fewer-than-expected vote-buying incidents proved that the "three-in-one" elections can not only lower the financial costs of the elections but also save on social resources, both of which are good things.
Premier Hsieh noted that in the past when one or more election was held each year the financial and social costs were very high, which had negative impacts on Taiwan's social and economic development. This year's "three-in-one" style reduced not only the cost of holding elections but also the drain on social resources. Premier Hsieh also expressed his gratitude to staff of the Central Election Commission and relevant law enforcement agencies for their efforts and dedication in making these elections run smoothly.
With completion of the elections, Premier Hsieh called for everyone to regain composure to ensure political stability and continued improvements to the economy and people's livelihoods. Disputes and lawsuits arising from the elections should be referred to judicial and other relevant agencies for handling in accordance with the law.
Accompanying Premier Hsieh on the inspection tour were Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Cho Jung-tai, Minister of the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission Hsu Chih-hsiung, Minister of the Government Information Office Pasuya Wen-chih Yao, and Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Masa J.S Chang.
