14. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall
At the far end of Eastern District is the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial
Hall, dedicated to the founding father of the Republic of China.
In addition to the memorial chamber containing a statue of Dr.
Sun, the complex features a concert hall with a busy schedule
of events. Also great for kids.

Just south of City Hall are the World Trade Center and the Grand
Hyatt Hotel, and further to the south and east is the Tunghua
Street night market, one of the city's most extensive and busy
night markets, with some lovely ornate temples too.
Just beyond the Hyatt you'll find a second Mitsukoshi department
store and the Warner Village cinema complex. With more brand new
office buildings and upscale high-rises springing up here all
the time, Sungshan is the fastest booming subdivision of Taipei.
In the foothills further south is the little "mountain village"
of Yitsui, a residential area popular with expats that want to
stay close to the city. Further up the slope is Thumb Mountain,
where a full afternoon of hiking can be had. (Some of the paths
are very steep.)
