The GIO has been offering information through the Internet since 1995. The GIO's Internet Team, part of the Department of International Information Services, was established in August 1999 as the first unit of its kind in the ROC government.

The Internet Team is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and promotion of the GIO's non-Chinese Web sites. The Team launched the Taiwan Headlines e-paper in September 1999, and has held various Web-based activities and competitions, organized live Webcasts and created Internet directories.

The GIO operates numerous Web sites around the world, including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Panama, featuring 12 different languages, including Chinese (both traditional and simplified characters), English, Spanish, German, French, and Russian. The GIO actively promotes these sites - which collate official statements, GIO publications, and information about Taiwan - to enhance the international community's understanding of the ROC.
   
4. GIO departments and offices at home and abroad make active use of the Internet, grasping every opportunity possible to spread information about the ROC.
