Women's Organizations

In their nascence, women's groups in Taiwan were mainly devoted to helping women become successful homemakers or in carrying out community benefit and charity work. The limited function of these groups widened considerably with the founding of the Women's Reading Club, which fostered feminist consciousness through reading, study, and attending lectures. At the same time, women began to stand up to struggle for equal rights and respect, forming numerous organizations devoted to these causes, including the provincial and municipal women's associations, the Taipei Women's Development Association, the YWCA of the ROC, and the ROC chapter of the World Women Reporters and Writers Association. Other groups include the Warm Life Association for Women, Taipei Awakening Association , End Child Prostitution Association Taiwan, Garden of Hope Foundation, Taipei Aboriginal Women's Association, Homemaker's Union and Foundation, and the Awakening Foundation. All of these groups work for the common goal of helping women realize their full potential and ability.
