Tropical plant communities, wetlands, and island ecosystems
Coastal areas are home to several species of plants, including Pemphis acidula, found in coral reefs; Kandelia candel (L) Druce, which are widely distributed throughout the Tamsui River basin; Drypetes littoralis (C.B.Rob.) Merr, which are found on seashores; and Nuphar shimadai (Hayata), commonly found in ponds. Coastal areas provide a home for numerous migratory birds every winter, including the Black-naped tern, Brown noddy, Chinese crested tern, Greater crested tern, Black-faced spoonbill, Brown shrike, Eurasian curlew, Green-winged teal, Spotted-billed duck, Black-winged stilt, Avocet, Lapwing, American golden plover, and Kentish plover. These

areas also serve as home to many resident birds, such as the Moorhen, White-breasted waterhen, Ruddy-breasted crake, Egret, Pheasant-tailed jacana, and Painted snipe, to name a few. Docile and  lovely Chinese stripe-necked turtles and other diverse marine animals,  such as the Green sea turtle, Pygmy killer whale, and Bottlenose  dolphin, also thrive in coastal areas, creating a more diverse and lively  eco-environment in Taiwan.
