Acer palmatum
Profile
Scientific name: Acer palmatum

Features: The Acer palmatum is an aceraceous deciduous tree with dissected, palmate leaves that are pointed on the front end, contain 5-7 lobes, and have serrated margins. The bark of the Acer palmatum is light brown, and its seedlings are covered with fine, long white hairs that become smoother with age. In the autumn and winter months, or once the temperature begins to drop, the leaves of the Acer palmatum will turn a combination of red, reddish-orange, and yellow, giving it the appearance of a maple tree, for which it is often mistaken for.
Habitat: The Acer palmatum is a red, autumnal tree endemic to Taiwan found in middle-altitude forests in the northern part of the island.
