The
Calocedrus formosana is a cone-shaped evergreen tree
with a straight trunk and reddish-brown bark containing red
resin. The tree's yellowish-brown wood is considered to be
of high quality, as it is solid, compact, and fairly resistant
to termites. The tree has monoecious flowers and lignified,
oblong cones containing two-winged seeds. Its leaves are scaly,
thin, and small, but are more slender than the leaves of Chamaecyparis
obtusa sieb. & zucc. var. formosana. The Calocedrus
formosana is one the five most important coniferous trees
in Taiwan alongside the Chamaecyparis formosensis,
Chamaecyparis obtusa sieb. & zucc. var. formosana,
Taiwania cryptomerioides, and Cunninghamia lanceolata. |
