| Features: |
Lagerstroemia
subcostata are deciduous trees
whose smooth brown bark makes them easily recognizable in
the woods. Their bark peels off automatically and keeps the
tree constantly smooth, making it difficult for even monkeys
to climb-hence its common name of "Monkey slip tree."
Lagerstroemia subcostata have flowers that are shaped
like circular cones, inflorescent panicles, wrinkled petals
with filaments of various lengths, and oval-shaped capsule
fruit containing small, winged seeds. |
| Habitat: |
Lagerstroemia
subcostata are found in Taiwan's
broad-leaved forests at low and middle altitudes, as well
as in central and southern areas of the Chinese mainland. |
