The mid-altitude areas comprise the warm-temperate coniferous forest belt (1800-2500 meters) and the warm-temperate broad-leaved forest belt (500-1800 meters in northern Taiwan and 700-1800 meters in southern Taiwan). There are also mixed conifer and hardwood forests between the two aforementioned forest belts, making the forest line not easily distinguishable.
B. Warm-temperate broad-leaved forest belt: areas between 500 and 1800 meters in northern Taiwan, and between 700 and 1800 meters in southern Taiwan
Chamaecyparis forests begin to diminish below an altitude of 1800 meters, and are replaced by broad-leaved forests comprised primarily of Fagacear and Lauraceae, including the Acer palmatum. The mixed conifer and hardwood forests found in this belt consist mainly of Chamaecyparis formosensis, Chamaecyparis obtusa sieb. & zucc. var. formosana, tsuga, and Calocedrus formosana, as well as a variety of different plant types, including Ternstroemia gymnanthera, Michelia compressa,

Rhododendron formosanum Hemsl., Cyclobalanopsis glauca, Quercus tarokoensis, Sapindus mukorossi, Machilus japonica sieb. & zucc. var. kusanoi, Fraxinus formosana, and Ficus wightiana Wall.
