with the latter two types comprising
the Chamaecyparis forests. Various animal species live here, including
the Formosan wild boar, Formosan reeve's muntjac, Formosan sambar,
Formosan serow, Formosan black bear, Formosan rock-monkey, and Red-bellied
tree squirrel, as well as a few rare species, such as the Hsuehshan
grass lizards and Moltrechti's green tree frogs. Birds that inhabit
mid-altitude areas-including Formosan yuhina, White-eared sibia, Green-backed
tit, Formosan yellow tit, Plumbeous water redstart, and Black-naped
monarch-are often seen here as well, as are Formosan landlocked salmon,
a national treasure more commonly known by the name of Taiwan trout. |
