Nuphar
shimadai are perennial floating plants with stout, cylindrical
rootstalks. The leaves clustering at the top of their rootstocks
are oblong or ovate, whereas the leaves submerged underwater
are shaped like arrows or hearts. Their petals appear degenerate
and undistinguishable, and their seeds are round and yellowish-brown.
Their bottle-shaped fruits have earned the plant the additional
nickname of "Brandy bottle." |
| Habitat: |
Nuphar
shimadai are distributed primarily in Hsinchu, Taoyuan,
and the ponds of central and southern Taiwan, which is the
furthest south that this species appears in the entire world. |
