| Profile |
| Scientific
name: |
Drypetes littoralis (C.B.Rob.)
Merr. |
|
| Features: |
The
Drypetes littoralis is a small evergreen tree with
smooth, rounded twigs and simple, oblong-falcated leaves that
grow in an alternating pattern, have short stalks, and branch
into unequal parts along the midrib. The fruits of the
Drypetes littoralis are covered with short, soft hair;
grow from the axis of the plant's leaves; and turn red when
mature. The plant's leathery leaves, which are 6-8cm long
and 3.5-4cm wide, are resistant to both strong sea winds and
searing sunshine, thus making the plant highly adaptive to
coastal areas. Its bright green leaves contrasted with its
mature, red oval fruit makes the Drypetes littoralis
an ideal houseplant. |
| Habitat: |
Drypetes
littoralis are distributing primarily on the rocky coasts
near the coral reefs of the Hengchun Peninsula and Orchid
island. |
