Lagerstroemia
subcostata are deciduous trees whose smooth brown bark
makes them easily recognizable in the woods. Their bark peels
off automatically and keeps the tree constantly smooth, making
it difficult for even monkeys to climb-hence its common name
of "Monkey slip tree." Lagerstroemia subcostata
have flowers that are shaped like circular cones, inflorescent
panicles, wrinkled petals with filaments of various lengths,
and oval-shaped capsule fruit containing small, winged seeds. |

at low and middle altitudes, as well as in central and southern
areas of the Chinese mainland. |
