Taiwan glossy wax tree, white
wax tree |
|
| Features: |
Fraxinus
formosana are oleaceus evergreens with grayish-white bark
that leave cloud-like marks when peeling. Their small, odd,
pinnate leaves are arranged opposite one another and have
smooth faces and margins; their inflorescence is grayish-white;
and their samara are long, narrow, and sheet-like. An extremely
beautiful tree, the Fraxinus formosana is quite suitable
for planting in gardens and along roadsides, and its Chinese
name-which literally translates into "white chicken oil"-is
taken from the wax-like gloss that can be derived from its
wood. |
| Habitat: |
Fraxinus
formosana are endemic to Taiwan and distributed throughout
the island's monsoon forests at low altitudes. |
