| Profile |
| Scientific
name: |
Callosciurus erythraeus flavimanus
thaiwanensis |
| Common
name: |
Fluffy squirrel |
|
| Features: |
The
Red-bellied tree squirrel is about 20cm long and weighs less
than 500g. They each have a red belly, two big red eyes, a
large pair of front teeth, a short coat of brown hair, and
a fluffy tail from which they get their nickname, "Fluffy
squirrel." |
| Behavior: |
The
diet of Red-bellied tree squirrels consists of seeds, fruits,
buds, flowers, bugs, and bird eggs. Timid and forgetful by
nature, the squirrels have a habit of hiding their food and
then forgetting where they've hidden it. However, it is because
of this forgetfulness that the seeds they have buried have
the chance to germinate and rejoin nature as new trees. The
Red-bellied tree squirrel can easily adapt to different environments
and can be seen in orchards, bamboo forests, secondary forests,
broad-leaved forests, and coniferous forests. |
| Habitat: |
Red-bellied
tree squirrels inhabit orchards, bamboo forests, and secondary
forests on flat ground, as well as virgin broad-leaved forests
and virgin coniferous forests at middle altitudes. |
