Sonani's salamander
Profile
Scientific name: Hynobius sonani
Common name: Neng-Gao salamander, ground dragon

Features: Sonani's salamander is a medium-sized amphibian that can grow up to 12cm long, with their trunks accounting for roughly 5-7cm of that length. Their tails are shaped like rods, their color varies greatly from light brown to yellowish- or pinkish-brown, and their smooth skin is covered irregularly with wide, dark brown stripes. Sonani's salamanders have small jutting eyes, slender forelegs, and sleek, sticky skin.
Behavior: Sonani's salamanders are usually seen at high altitudes on either damp ground near the sources of streams, in coniferous forests, or on the banks of streams located in mountainous grasslands. They feed primarily on pillworms and arachnids found in the soil, and their habitat is usually covered by snow in the wintertime.
Habitat: Sonani's salamanders are endemic to Taiwan and only inhabit undisturbed areas in Taiwan's Central Mountain Range at altitudes above 3000m.¡C
