Flamecrest  / Taiwan firecrest
Profile
Scientific name: Regules goodfellowi
VoiceˇG

Features: The Flamecrest is a small bird only 9cm long whose white feathers encircling its black eyes on its white face give it the appearance of having two "black eyes." Their most distinguishing characteristic is the orange-yellow crest on top of their heads, which, when highlighted with light, makes the bird especially beautiful.
Behavior: Flamecrests have a fine, shrill voice that typically sounds like "zi , zi yi." Their diet consists primarily of insects. They are very picky as to which type of tree to perch on and where to search for food, and prefer the trees found in coniferous forests. Active but solitary birds, Flamecrests are often seen nibbling on insects on the branches and leaf sheathes of trees in coniferous forests.
Habitat: Flamecrests are endemic to Taiwan and a common resident of coniferous forests at higher elevations. Although they can be found at altitudes of 2000-3700m, they are most common in areas above 2500m.
