The
male Vinaceous rosefinch has wine colored plumage, white supercilium,
and a brownish-black tail and wings. Females, on the other hand,
are less impressive in appearance than their male counterparts,
and simply have dark brown plumage covered with vertical black
specks.
Behavior:
Vinaceous
rosefinches have a monotone call that sounds like "zi zi
zi." Their diet consists primarily of small worms, plant
seeds, and vegetable seeds, though occasionally they will also
scavenge through rubbish piles to look for food, hence its nickname
of "garbage bird." Brilliantly colored birds, Vinaceous
rosefinches are not shy of humans and can often be seen searching
for food in forests, scrubs, plantations, and nurseries-either
in small groups, or mingling with other birds. Females are hard
working and will often clean the area surrounding their nests,
which are constructed out of moss and cobwebs. In flight, they
move at a very fast speed in a curvy, wave-like manner.
Habitat:
Vinaceous
rosefinches are a sub-species of bird endemic to Taiwan usually
found in broad-leaved forests at low and high elevations, usually
at 2000m and above.
