Snake lizard / Harti's glass lizard
Profile
Scientific name: Ophisaurus Harti
Common name: Mud Dragon, Mo Ka Do Dieh (in Taiwanese pronunciation)

Features: Harti's glass lizards look similar to snakes because they are born without limbs. Unlike snakes, however, the Harti's glass lizard's eyelids and external auditory canals are clearly visible. The lizard has a maximum body length of about 20cm, and its tail can reach 1.8 times its body length. Grown lizards come in all shades of brown with many blue specks, while young lizards have dark or black-striped markings along the sides of their body.
Behavior: Harti's glass lizards are a rare and shy species, and thus are not easily found. They prefer living under cluttered, fallen leaves in damp forests or soil, though they will sometimes enjoy a sunbath on an open forest path or along the roadside. Their diet consists primarily of earthworms, slugs, and beetle larvae. Female lizards usually lay five leathery eggs per clutch. Their tails are detachable.
Habitat: Harti's glass lizards are mostly found in the soil of forest floors located at low to middle altitudes between 1000m and 2000m elevations.
