Alisan's salamander
Profile
Scientific Name: Hynobius arisanensis
Common Name: Taiwan's small salamander, Mount Ali small salamander, ground dragon

Features: Alisan's salamander is a medium-sized amphibian that can grow up to 10cm long, with their trunks accounting for roughly 5-6cm of that length. Their tails are shaped like rods, and their smooth skin usually does not have any patterns on it. Adults are brown to light brown in color, while young salamanders are dark brown. Alisan's salamanders have small, black, jutting eyes; slender limbs; and sleek, sticky skin.
Behavior: Alisan's salamanders prefer cool, damp environments. They usually hide under rotten wood or stones during the day and become active at night. Their diet consists primarily of arachnids. As one of the few species to survive Earth's Ice Age, Alisan's salamanders do not fear cold and usually breed in the wintertime.
Habitat: Alisan's salamanders are endemic to Taiwan. They are mainly distributed throughout the island's virgin coniferous forests at middle to high altitudes, as well as in the dark and damp areas near mountain streams in broad-leaved forests.
